Signature Generator — Draw or Type Your Signature Online

Draw your signature or type it in a handwriting style, then download a transparent PNG or SVG.

Found a problem, or something that could be better? We read every message and we fix things quickly.

This signature generator makes an image of your signature that you can place into PDFs, Word documents, emails and forms. Draw it with your mouse, finger or a stylus (the line gets thinner when you move fast and thicker when you slow down, like real ink), or type your name and pick a handwriting style. Download a transparent PNG, cropped tight to the signature so it sits cleanly on a signature line, or an SVG.

Typed styles start with eight open-licensed handwriting fonts served from this site (Dancing Script, Great Vibes, Sacramento, Allura and others), so they look the same on every device. Script fonts already installed on your computer or phone, such as Snell Roundhand or Segoe Script, are offered after them. Everything happens in your browser, and your signature is never uploaded. Be clear about what this is: an image of a signature, not a certified or tamper-evident digital signature.

How to use

  1. Choose Type it or Draw it.
  2. To type: enter your name and click the style you like. To draw: sign in the box, using Undo to remove the last stroke.
  3. Pick an ink colour and thickness. Blue ink makes it obvious on a printout that the signature was added, not photocopied.
  4. Download the PNG (transparent background, trimmed) or the SVG, or copy it as an image.
  5. Insert the image into your document: in a PDF reader use “Fill & Sign” or “Add image”, in Word use Insert > Pictures.

Frequently asked questions

Is an electronic signature legally binding?

Often, yes, but it depends on the jurisdiction and the document. In the US the ESIGN Act and UETA, in the EU the eIDAS Regulation, and in Canada PIPEDA and provincial electronic commerce laws all allow electronic signatures for most contracts. Some documents, such as wills, certain property transfers and notarised forms, still need a handwritten, witnessed or qualified signature. An image signature also proves little about who applied it. When it matters, ask the recipient what they accept or get legal advice.

Is this the same as a digital signature?

No. A digital signature (for example in Adobe Acrobat or DocuSign) uses a certificate and cryptography to prove who signed and that the document has not changed since. This tool makes a picture of your signature. Anyone with the file could paste it elsewhere, so treat the PNG like a photo of your signature and only send it where you would send a scanned one.

How do I add my signature to a PDF?

Download the transparent PNG, then open the PDF in a reader that can add images: in Adobe Acrobat Reader use Fill & Sign > Add signature > Image; in macOS Preview use Markup > Signature or paste the image; on Windows, Microsoft Edge and most PDF editors can insert an image. Resize it to fit the signature line. If you need to combine or split pages afterwards, use a PDF merge and split tool.

Why does the PNG have a transparent background?

So it sits on top of the signature line and any form shading without a white box around it. The image is also trimmed to the edges of the ink with a small margin, so you do not have to crop it, and exported at three times screen resolution so it stays sharp when printed.

Why do some font styles only appear on one of my devices?

The first eight styles are fonts this site serves itself, so they are identical everywhere. Any extra styles after them come from handwriting fonts installed on the device you are using, and Apple devices, Windows and Android each ship different ones. If you pick one of those, download the PNG once and reuse it so the look stays consistent.

Is my signature stored or uploaded?

No. Drawing, rendering and exporting all happen in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored, and closing the tab removes it. The downloaded file is created on your device.

Drawn vs typed: which to use

A drawn signature looks like your real one and is the better choice for anything that a person will compare with your usual signature, such as a lease or a consent form. Use a stylus or a finger on a phone or tablet if you can: a mouse or trackpad makes signatures look shaky. Sign larger than you would on paper; the export is trimmed and scaled down in the document anyway.

A typed signature is consistent and readable, which suits email sign-offs, internal approvals and documents where the recipient only needs your name in a signature style. Drawn signatures export as true vector SVG paths. Typed ones are rendered from a font, so their SVG contains the rendered image rather than outlines.

What an image signature does and does not do

• It shows intent to sign, which is what most electronic signature laws focus on for ordinary contracts.

• It does not identify you: there is no certificate, ID check or audit trail.

• It does not protect the document: the PDF can be edited after you sign.

• For contracts that need proof, use an e-signature service that records who signed and when, or a certificate-based digital signature.

• Keep the file private. Anyone who has the PNG can paste it into another document.
