This Google Sheets shortcuts cheat sheet lists every keyboard shortcut Google documents for Sheets, with the Windows, Mac and Chromebook keys in one table: Ctrl+Shift+V to paste values only, Alt+Shift+5 for strikethrough, Ctrl+Alt+M for a comment, Alt+Down Arrow to jump to the next sheet. If you come from Excel, the notes on each row show where Excel uses different keys, so you don't have to learn by trial and error.

The list was checked on 2026-10-18 against Google's "Keyboard shortcuts for Google Sheets" help page, which has separate tables for PC, Mac and Chrome OS. Google writes the menu shortcuts for Chrome (Alt+F for File) and notes that other browsers need Alt+Shift; both are shown. Some shortcuts depend on your keyboard language; the date and time ones, for example, change in Portugal, Italy, Germany and Spain.

How to use

  1. Find your system's column: Windows, Mac or Chromebook.
  2. Search by what you want to do ("hide row", "comment") or by keys ("ctrl alt 9").
  3. Read the "Excel:" note on a row to see how the same action works in Excel.
  4. Click Copy to copy a shortcut, or the action name to share a link to it.
  5. Use "Print / Save as PDF" for a paper copy.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see all keyboard shortcuts in Google Sheets?

Press Ctrl+/ on Windows or a Chromebook, or Cmd+/ on a Mac, while a spreadsheet is open. Sheets shows its shortcut list, which you can search. Alt+/ (Option+/ on Mac) opens the Tool finder, where you can type the name of any menu command.

Can I use Excel shortcuts in Google Sheets?

Partly. Many basics are the same (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+D, F4, Ctrl+Shift+4 for currency). For the rest, open Help > Keyboard shortcuts in Sheets and turn on "Enable compatible spreadsheet shortcuts", which lets Sheets accept shortcuts from other spreadsheet programs. The "Excel:" notes on this page show where the default keys differ.

What is the shortcut to paste values only in Google Sheets?

Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows and Chromebook, Cmd+Shift+V on a Mac. It pastes the values without formulas or formatting. Excel has no single key for this; there you open Paste Special with Ctrl+Alt+V and press V.

How do I switch between sheets (tabs) with the keyboard?

Alt+Down Arrow moves to the next sheet and Alt+Up Arrow to the previous one on Windows. On a Mac use Option+Down and Option+Up (Option+Right and Option+Left on a MacBook). On a Chromebook use Ctrl+Shift+Search+Down or Up. Alt+Shift+K (Option+Shift+K on Mac) shows a list of all sheets.

What is the strikethrough shortcut in Google Sheets?

Alt+Shift+5 on Windows and Chromebook. On a Mac, Cmd+Shift+X, Cmd+5 or Ctrl+5 all work. In Excel the Windows shortcut is Ctrl+5 instead.

How do I insert today's date or the current time?

Ctrl+; inserts today's date and Ctrl+Shift+; the current time (Cmd+; and Cmd+Shift+; on a Mac). Ctrl+Alt+Shift+; inserts both. In Portugal, Italy, Germany and Spain Google uses Ctrl+Shift+D, Ctrl+Shift+H and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+N instead.

Google Sheets vs Excel: the shortcuts that differ

Most editing keys match, but these trip up people who switch between the two:

• Paste values: Ctrl+Shift+V in Sheets; Ctrl+Alt+V, V, Enter in Excel.

• Next / previous sheet: Alt+Down / Alt+Up in Sheets; Ctrl+Page Down / Page Up in Excel. In Excel, Alt+Down opens a drop-down instead.

• Hide rows and columns: Ctrl+Alt+9 and Ctrl+Alt+0 in Sheets; Ctrl+9 and Ctrl+0 in Excel. Unhiding is Ctrl+Shift+9 / 0 in both.

• Strikethrough: Alt+Shift+5 in Sheets; Ctrl+5 in Excel.

• Alignment: Ctrl+Shift+L / E / R align left, center, right in Sheets. In Excel, Ctrl+Shift+L toggles filters.

• Comments: Ctrl+Alt+M in Sheets; Ctrl+Shift+F2 in Excel. Notes are Shift+F2 in both.

• Alt+Enter: opens a link in Sheets, but starts a new line inside the cell in Excel.

• Number formats: Sheets uses Ctrl+Shift+1 to 6, which are physically the same keys as Excel's Ctrl+Shift+! @ # $ % ^, and they do the same things.

Menu shortcuts in Chrome, other browsers and on a Mac

Google Sheets runs in a browser, and browsers reserve some Alt keys for themselves. In Chrome on Windows, Alt plus a letter opens a Sheets menu: Alt+F File, Alt+E Edit, Alt+V View, Alt+I Insert, Alt+O Format, Alt+D Data, Alt+T Tools, Alt+N Extensions, Alt+H Help. In Firefox, Edge and other browsers, add Shift (Alt+Shift+F).

On a Mac the menus use Ctrl+Option plus the same letter (Ctrl+Option+I for Insert). Chaining letters works like a path through the menu: Alt+I, then R, then R inserts a row above, and Alt+E, then D, then D deletes the row.

Google Sheets on a Chromebook

Chromebook keyboards have no Home, End or F-keys, so Google maps them to the Search (Launcher) key: Search+Left and Search+Right go to the start and end of a row, Ctrl+Search+Left jumps to the top of the sheet, and Search+4 is the F4 key for toggling $ references while you write a formula. Switching sheets needs Ctrl+Shift+Search with the Up or Down arrow.

Everything else in the Chromebook column matches Windows. For system-wide Chromebook shortcuts (screenshots, Caps Lock, desks) see the Chromebook shortcuts cheat sheet.
